Chemical Peels

Chemical peels example

Peeling comes from the word "to peel" which is the English word for peel. The objective of a peeling is to correct the ageing of the skin, pigmentation marks, acne scars, sebhorrea. The skin texture is honed, the complexion clearer and more glowing. Light, average and dark peelings can be made out according to the depth of the skin treated. All must be carried out in an experienced Doctor's surgery. Effective peeling is not a "super exfoliation" which can be practised at home.

Skin Tech has perfected a range of peelings adapted for all skin types.

Dermal Fillers

Restylane in Lips Before Restylane Lips After

Restylane dermal fillers in face before Restylane Dermal Fillers in Face After

Most dermal filler are made from a substance called hyaluronic acid. This is present in your skin naturally where it helps to keep it supple and youthful. With time the amounts of hyaluronic acid tend to dwindle leading to lack of moisture and wrinkle formation as we age. Dermal fillers work softening lines, furrows and wrinkles. The gel is injected into the skin in small amounts with a very fine needle.

Anyone can benefit from dermal filer treatment both men and women, there are many makes of fillers e.g. Restylane, Perlane, Hydrafill and Juvederm. Nor only are the used to to disguise lines and wrinkles they are also used for lip enhancement and facial contouring.

The treatment will usually take between 10 and 20 minutes. Very small needles are used and any discomfort is usually minimal and short-lived. The result is instant.

As soon as your treatment is over you can resume normal daily activities

The treatment is long-lasting but not permanent effects. How long a treatment lasts is very individual. This depends on many factors, such as your age, skin type, life style and muscle activity, as well as on the injection technique. Most patients choose to have a follow-up six to twelve months after their initial treatment for contouring or wrinkles. After lip treatments, a follow-up is normally needed after around six months. There are some new fillers that are not made from Hyaluronic Acid such as Laresse, but these work in exactly the same way.

The next step is to book a consultation appointment. For a dentist offering wrinkle treatment near you go to find a dentist.

Botox and Dysort, types of Botulinum Toxin

Botox Frown Before Botox Frown After

Botox is the household name for botulinum toxin type A. This is a substance that is produced by a bacteria; it is then highly refined, purified and diluted and used in therapeutic doses. Botulinum is administered by injecting into a specific facial muscle where it acts as a muscle relaxant. Anyone can benefit from botulinum toxin, both men and women.

Botulinum is most effective in improving lines or wrinkles due to facial expressions; for example worry lines or frown lines on the forehead and between the eyebrows. This is because these lines are most usually caused by overactive muscles and botulinum stops these muscles from contracting and causing the wrinkles.

In most cases the treatment will take between 10 and 20 minutes. Very tiny needles are used to inject the medication and only small amounts are used. As a result any discomfort is usually minimal and short-lived. Approximately two weeks after this first treatment, the effects will be reviewed with your dentist and any further treatments or top-ups can be discussed. As soon as your treatment is over you can resume normal daily activities.

Some people ask if the effects of this treatment look artificial. Unlike some surgical facelifts, this kind of treatment is very specific and works on only those muscles that are involved in producing the facial lines that you want to reduce. Other muscles are unaffected and this means that your usual facial expressions will be the same.

Initially the improvement that you will receive from this treatment will last from 3 to 6 months. You will notice a gradual fading of effect and at this stage you can return for another treatment if you want to. With repeated treatments, the effect lasts longer.

Sculpltra the Volumiser

Sculptra - Before 1 Sculptra -1 After

Sculptra - Before 2 Sculptra - 2 After

Sculptra is a dermal filler/volumiser made from a substance called poly-L-lactic acid. This is a synthetic substance which is made in a laboratory and is biocompatible (does not harm the body) and biodegradable (breaks down naturally in the body). Poly-L-lactic acid stimulates the body to produce collagen which is responsible for the skin's natural elasticity. Sculptra provides an increase in skin thickness, helping to create a more natural facial appearance.

Anyone can benefit from treatment with Sculptra, both men and women.

Sculptra can be used in areas of fat loss beneath the surface of the skin that result in sunken cheeks, indentations and hollow eye sockets. It also has great potential for the treatment of prominent skin folds such as those around the mouth, for the treatment of wrinkles and for the correction of facial scars where skin atrophy has occurred.

Sculptra is injected in small amounts using very fine needles. Any discomfort is usually transient but some people may benefit from the use of a local anaesthetic to reduce this. Some treatments, such as those used for plumping out areas of facial fat loss, may require more than one appointment and assessment of effects should take place two weeks after the initial application. Any additional treatment, if necessary, can be arranged over the course of the next weeks. Results are not instant but a gradual improvement will be seen and by 6 weeks the final effects are usually apparent.

Sculptra is reasonably long-lasting. No frequent refresher courses are necessary and most people are happy with this treatment for periods of up to eighteen months or more.

Cosmeceuticals

Cosmeceuticals from Skin Ceuticals

A Cosmeceutical is a term that has been coined to describe a product that is a cross between a cosmetic and medicine (pharmaceutical). Like cosmetics, most cosmeceuticals are topically applied, but they contain ingredients that influence the biological function of the skin. Cosmeceuticals improve appearance, but they do so by delivering nutrients necessary for healthy skin.

Cosmeceuticals aim to improve skin health by targeting prevention, protection, and correction and so most products are designed to prevent future damage, protect healthy skin, or correct previous damage.

The active ingredients in most products are patented super-nutrients recognized for their ability to support you during ageing, for example, anti-oxidants, amino acids, vitamins, minerals and botanicals. Each of these unique formulations works at a cellular level to help skin and body achieve and maintain a more youthful, healthy look.

Cosmeceuticals are classed liked cosmetics and are clinically tested for safety; however, testing to determine whether beneficial ingredients actually live up to a manufacturer's claims is not mandatory. In general, vitamins, herbs, various oils, and botanical extracts may be used in cosmeceuticals, but the manufacturer may not claim that these products penetrate beyond the skin's surface layers or that they have a medicinal effect. For cosmetic labels, no division between active ingredients and other ingredients is required; they are all listed together.

To find out more about cosmeceuticals book a consultation appointment or speak to the receptionist.
